Is it a coincidence that the most internal and surreal of the episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion before Episode 25 (a square number) is Episode 16 (a square number)?

Episode 9 (the next smaller square number) isn't particularly weird, unless the spectacle of Asuka and Shinji being made to dance a synchronized ballet can be said to be weird.
