They have to lie, because no sane human desires war (and real reasons for an offensive one are rare or inexistent).
Western propaganda like it is 1991 again with "precision bombing" and the mysterious enemy with "weapons of mass destruction". WMD for which the bully USA appears to have a monopoly (Hiroshima, Nagasaki). I'll never forget 1991 lies. A lot of Western mainstream media will very often self-censor, and obey to the Western status quo. Whether that status quo is not democractic or even full fascist does not matter. And since the decline of paper newspaper numbers being sold it is mouse clicks that have become very important for newspaper management. For example, two column writers in two different Dutch newspapers were laid off after more than forty years because of mouse clicks despite a lot of protest by people writing paper letter to the newspapers. The sad thing is that with readers reading paper newspaper there is no such thing as mouse-clicks that can be counted. People like Trump, Farage, Wilders, and others swinging towards far right, fascism are like gold for newspaper clicks. How else can one explain the daily photos of Trump and Trump's spaghetti sentences on the frontpages. Anyway, the big question right now is how do we get journalists back to doing their jobs ? Which includes to defend democracy rather than helping to be part of the erosion of it. #press #journalism #journalists

"As President Donald Trump continues to bombard Iran, he’s following a plan laid out in a “Project 2025”–like manifesto written by a long-standing force in US foreign policy: the neocons who backed the Iraq War more than twenty years ago.
It’s part of a dark money–backed network of neoconservatives and Israel lobbyists that has been working quietly over the past year to push the Trump administration to launch a military intervention in Iran, releasing memos and polls urging action.
In the first weeks of Trump’s presidency in January 2025, a think tank called the Vandenberg Coalition released a white paper outlining a new agenda for US foreign policy. Called “Deals of the Century: Solving the Middle East,” the document was a “neocon manifesto” for a second Trump presidency, advocating for the United States to provide even more arms to Israel and take a “radically different” stance on Iran. It was a hawkish road map designed to influence a president who had ostensibly embraced isolationist messaging in his campaign.
The Vandenberg Coalition, formed in 2021 during President Joe Biden’s time in office, advocates for an interventionist foreign policy and increased defense spending. Over the past year, it has released a flurry of reports on Venezuela and Iran, cheering on the capture of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and releasing a document in January that called for strikes against Iran."
"On balance, it seems clear that the invasion of Iraq really was not “all about oil” — or if it was, then the US war was staggeringly ill-conceived and ill-executed. There is basically no link you can make between Iraq’s vast oil reserves and direct benefits for the US state, consumers, or large oil companies.
So, if not oil, what was the reason? I am no expert on the Middle East, nor the American neoconservative movement circa 2003, but my conjecture is that it was part of the larger neocon campaign to project US global power throughout the Middle East and around the world. The 1979 Iranian Revolution, and Saddam Hussein’s audacious invasion of Kuwait in 1991, were evidence of a region out of the United States’ tight control. By taking out Saddam’s regime, the United States could implant another ally alongside Saudi Arabia and Israel (among others) to protect US interests in the region.
Of course, this theory has its own problems, given that the invasion has resulted in basically nonstop chaos and instability since. This chaos continues today as the United States tries to foster regime change in Iran (unlikely to happen simply with bombs from above).
But there is evidence that the neocons and the “Project for a New American Century” were thinking of the Iraq War this way."
