The film #GoodOnPaper also reminded me of the 2005 #NeilStrauss book #TheGame , subtitled "Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists" or "Undercover in the Secret Society of Pickup Artists".

The book describes a subculture of a few men willing to do horrible things to "pick up" women. As I recall from reading it (which I could only ever recommend only as a guilty pleasure and not as a "how to" manual), though some men sought to learn tricks to overcome their shyness and fulfill their lives with meaningful relationships, most were out to use women. (Perhaps some women sought to be used, or at least tolerated it; others were clearly just duped by men behaving badly.)

I can't help but wonder if the subject of the film got his inspiration from this crap book or the shitty community that spawned it.
