La mobilisation continue, et le besoin de soutien physique est urgent au km 134 sur le Chemin Parent.

Right now, we’re covering an action that Innu land defenders are calling an exercise in sovereignty.

They plan to block the CN railway tracks to protect their ancestral territory. Alongside them, Atikamekw allies — also known as Nehirowisiw — stand as guardians of the forest.

We’ve been bouncing all over the map this week.

Started at Camp Souveraineté on Nehirowisiw territory, standing with land defenders holding down the line against colonial logging.

Then dropped down to Kanehsatake, Mohawk territory, reconnecting with warriors still rooted in a long, unbroken tradition of resistance.

From there, we headed back north to Wemotaci, where we linked up with the Gardien·nes du Territoire — watching them keep close surveillance on the CN rail lines, blocking shipments of stolen wood. Successfully. It was heartening. Brought us right back to the energy of #ShutdownCanada in 2020. That fire is still burning.

We took a break from filming in Nehirowisiw territory (also known as Nitaskinan, homeland of the Atikamekw) for our upcoming documentary Guardians of the Forest to meet with Rehab Nazzal—who first met Clifton Ariwakehte Nicholas in 2016 when she served as an activist guide during his visit to Bethlehem and the occupied West Bank.

This time, Clifton was able to return the gesture by welcoming her to Kanehsatà:ke and sharing the land with her alongside longtime land defender and Siege of Kanehsatà:ke veteran Ellen Gabriel.

It was a powerful exchange between communities separated by geography but united in struggle.
