Jendia Gammon on Instagram: "Thirty years ago, I was a @barbie spokesmodel during my university days. It was a brief, but good paying gig. I then wanted to model part-time, but Ford modeling agency said I was too short. I continued my science education and got a degree in ecology and evolutionary biology. I worked in labs and then eventually moved to clinical research. All that time, I was writing (since childhood). I’m now a science writer, Nebula award @sfwa_inc & @bsfa_vector award finalist author, and still an artist. Life is interesting. I think that was actually my first contract. In this case, with @mattel. Fun story: the third year they called to see if I was available to model, I was out flyfishing (single hook, artificial) in the Smoky Mountains @greatsmokynps and didn’t get back to them fast enough, so I missed out that time. I guess I was in Angler Barbie mode. Alas! Thus ended my Barbie modeling days. Seems very on brand, now that I think about it. Out in nature and missing an important call.
