Yesterday was the #Episcopal Diocese of #Nebraska ‘s Day of Advocacy at the State Legislature. About 25 people, including our Bishop Scott Barker, Canon of the Ordinary, Liz Easton, multiple clergy, & lay persons from around the state gathered in #Lincoln to support LB 319 which would change provisions relating to SNAP benefits within the state. In particular this bill would correct a punitive measure stemming from the war on drugs of the 1990s that prohibits persons convicted of drug related offenses who had served their sentences or are currently on parole from receiving SNAP benefits. We met with 18 of our senators to urge them to support this bill and stop punishing families, especially children, for mistakes made by a single member of the family. This bill will not add to Nebraska’s budget, as SNAP is federally funded. It will, in the face of rising food costs, help & support families across the state, as well as helping reduce the chances of recidivism #DioNeb #NebraskaPolitics

🚨 Disability rights are under attack in 17 states! 🚨

There’s a lawsuit trying to get rid of Section 504, the law that protects disabled people in schools, workplaces, and public spaces. If they succeed, it means:

❌ Schools wouldn’t have to provide accommodations (no extra test time for ADHD, no wheelchair access, no diabetes care in class).
❌ Workplaces wouldn’t have to adjust for disabilities (no remote work, no flexible scheduling, no accessibility requirements).
❌ Public spaces could ignore accessibility needs (buildings, buses, and services wouldn’t have to be usable for disabled people).

📍 These 17 states are trying to gut 504 protections:
Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia.

If you live in one of these states, contact your state reps & governor! If this lawsuit succeeds, other states could follow, or it could reach the Supreme Court and hurt everyone.

I don't suppose any of you are from or know people who live in Nebraska...? Anyway, this seems like a good bill to tell your legislators you support.

Four of Nebraska’s largest school districts use #debtcollectors to go after unpaid #lunchtabs An elementary school boy ate $194 worth of lunches at school in Lincoln. When his parents failed to pay the entire amount, the school district referred the rest, $53, to a private #debtcollectionagency that sued the boy’s parents. The #Nebraska Legislature is considering a bill that would ban the practice of sending unpaid school meal debts to collection firms. #NEleg https://flatwaterfreepress.org/four-of-nebraskas-largest-school-districts-use-debt-collectors-to-go-after-unpaid-lunch-tabs/

@GottaLaff So sad.

Nebraska, honestly it's not for women.

I designed this with my friend Dee and Raygun shirts. Last year. I didn't think it would come to this, but I was wrong. :-(
