Sharing files to non-Galaxy devices using Quick Share
Have you wondered if you can share the files from your Galaxy device to a non-Galaxy device using Quick Share? Are you trying to share a picture to your friend that uses an iOS device, like an iPhone and/or an iPad? If so, Samsung provides an option to share files this way.
In order to share files this way, make sure that both devices are connected to a stable internet connection, then follow these steps:
If your other device is an Android device (Google Pixel, Huawei, Xiaomi, etc.), you can find it under your device gallery. For iOS users, read further.
If you are sharing photos to iOS users, the Photos app will not recognize your downloaded file due to the way it probes the photos on your device. This is unintuitive, as it requires extra steps to get Photos to recognize your downloaded photo. To make Photos recognize your downloaded file, open Files, go to your downloaded image, and long press on it. You should see a context menu that has a Share button, just like below.
Afterwards, a floating window should appear. Scroll up, and you should see Save Image. Tap this button, and Photos should recognize your downloaded file.
Afterwards, you can use this photo to share your best moments in your Instagram stories, or anything else!
To verify that your downloaded photo has been saved to Photos, open the app, and find your shared photo. Press on it and verify the contents.
In case of sharing multiple files to iOS users, once they press Download, they’ll be able to either download as individual files or as a ZIP compressed file. We recommend downloading it as ZIP to get all files.
While iOS can unzip the ZIP files by pressing on it in the Files app, you’ll have to save the images to Photos using the above method. Press Download as ZIP file, and a compressed file will be downloaded. Open Files, navigate to iCloud Drive > Downloads, and press on the ZIP file.
Afterwards, content will be extracted to a new directory under the same archive name. Go to it, and save the images using the method above. You can remove the ZIP file afterwards.
Pro tip: While iOS implements support for ZIP files, it doesn’t support viewing the archive contents; only unzipping it. You can’t share files from iOS to Android using the official AirDrop sharing protocol due to lack of support for Android in the AirDrop side, but you can follow the steps outlined here.
