Ah, but @Robotistry 's proposal includes UBI for ALL lab members, not just the PI. Literally, 95% of my budget is for salaries.* If I had the salaries (and benefits**) of my trainees and staff covered, I could probably pay for my lab expenses out of pocket.

* As measured quantitatively in my current accounting. Actual number = 96.3%.

** For all the fedi from civilized countries (i.e. not the US), I am also responsible for covering the health care insurance premiums and retirement benefits for my staff. #nationalizedHealthCare

When I think about the amount of science I could do if I wasn't wasting time writing grants and I wasn't panicking about lab stability... yeah, UBI would make a difference. #UBI changes the entire structure of what a civilization can do.

@middleclasstool

Ours is over $22,000 of debt, because our hospital doesn't want to admit there is a duplicate charge, and continues to refuse to send the substantiating claim paperwork to the insurance company to prove if it's as valid as they claim it is.

So because they refuse to either prove it's a valid charge or admit it is not, they will keep it on our credit report until we can afford to hire a lawyer. No one else will help us at this point. We're out of options. No matter what, their mistake is going to cost us a LOT of money, and all they have to do is keep ignoring us.

Do what you have to in order to keep your #NationalizedHealthCare , so you don’t end up like us.
