This ODT editorial is from last week but it's worth noting how strongly they come out against the coalition government's all-out war on clean vehicles and a cleaner environment.

Soon after taking office, National ditched the Clean Car Discount scheme, just as it was beginning to flip the fleet. Now they're killing the Clean Vehicle Standard to encourage the import of the dirtiest vehicles. They're willingly sacrificing NZ's environment, merely to line the pockets of a handful of vehicle importers.

As the ODT says, Luxon's government is "prioritising private interests over the nation's future."

When National embarked on their deliberate destruction of NZ's health service, they promised that no front-line jobs would be affected. Yeah, right.

National lied.

Take Southland Hospital. After management pushed through a controversial 'night roster' despite knowing there weren't enough staff to fill the roles, several nurses left.

Both senior urologists left, killing prostate and bladder surgery coverage for Southland and Queenstown.

A whistleblower claims operating theatres have been temporarily shut down.

‘‘The few remaining theatre staff with any experience have burnt out and management are rapidly trying to replace them with junior and graduate nurses with no supervision.’’

National has extracted billions from NZ's health system and given it to Luxon and his fellow landlords. This is National's bright new future -- where only the wealthy will be healthy.

It's cruel and it's greedy, but hey... they're National's core values.

The New Zealand Herald

The Luxon coalition has scored another win... NZ is the officially the "most deteriorated" in an international study assessing interference by the tobacco industry.

We were second in the world in 2023 but the coalition's screwed up policies have seen us drop to 53rd in the 2025 Global Tobacco Industry Interference Index.

Remember Casey Costello giving $200m to Philip Morris and letting them write our tobacco legislation? Slipping payments to big tobacco puts NZ in some hallowed company, along with Ecuador, Georgia, Madagascar, Türkiye and Uganda. The Luxon government proudly embraces corruption.

At least Labour finally manages to speak out about something and actually makes a promise to the electorate.

"Labour leader Chris Hipkins told the RNZ interview show 30 with Guyon Espiner that Labour would repeal the tobacco tax cuts."

From number two in the world to number 53: "The National Party -- going backwards is what we do best."

'Most deteriorated' - NZ plummets in global tobacco control ranking

$5b-plus blowout for eight Roads of National Significance - Newsroom

<<The total anticipated bill for the Government's 17 Roads of National Significance has swelled to an estimated $44 to $54 billion – a gargantuan figure more than 23 times the cost of the Dunedin Hospital rebuild.>>

I would sooner have hospitals than roads you pillocks!

We have another classic from Nicola No Boats. She's credited as the "architect" of the Nats' FamilyBoost scheme intended to subsidise childcare for struggling families.

But the bulk of the funding is going to the better-off and poorer families are missing out. Trouble is, the scheme was never grounded in reality: an economic policy devised without using any actual figures. It's another Willis ballsup, as Amelia Wade explains in the Sunday Star Times.

"... a scheme built on guesswork, launched in haste, and propped up by numbers officials knew were shaky."

Does anybody still believe the myth that National are better economic managers?

Waikato Med School scandal

The ODT has obtained documents under the Official Information Act which show that Treasury "expressed a litany of concerns about the Waikato proposal."

Despite the Waikato proposal making no financial sense, the Luxon government ignored official advice and bunged $82m towards National supporter Quigley's pet project.

Green MP Francisco Hernandez says "This is yet another example of the government disregarding and setting aside good decision-making processes to benefit special interests".

I have no inside information and I'm only speculating here, but does anyone else sense a possible quid pro quo from National for Quigley's 'assistance' in pushing Adrian Orr out of the Reserve Bank?
