For #NationalIndigenousHistoryMonth, #ResearchRoundup showcases a language documentation and revitalisation project developed in collaboration with Elder Nancy Jones (Ogimaawigwanebiik). Discover the Anishinaabemowin Field Methods collection (UBC): https://borealisdata.ca/dataverse/AFM
Anishinaabemowin Field Methods

Each year, working closely with a language consultant, UBC graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in the Field Methods class (LING 431, 432, 531, 532) embark on original research projects. Across the 2024/2025 academic year, students worked with Nancy Jones (Ogimaawigwanebiik) who is both a respected elder of Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation and fluent native speaker of the Border Lakes dialect of Anishinaabemowin (also known as Ojibwe). The students each consulted with Nancy Jones to document her use of the language and contribute to language revitalization efforts. This dataverse consists of data collected over the course of the year organized by the research projects conducted by each student. Currently, only some of the data from the class is available, but we are working to add more.
