Yellowknife vigil commemorates victims, calls for action on gender-based violence | CBC Arctic Winter Games

More than 60 people attended a vigil for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, organized by the YWCA and the Status of Women Council of the N.W.T. The day honours the victims of one of the deadliest acts of gender-based violence in Canadian history. Here's what some of the event's speakers shared about what they want to see done to prevent further acts of femicide.

For me, today is a day of rest, reflection and a #NationalDayOfMourning in solidarity with Indigenous people. No matter how you celebrate, please remember those who were lost and that the oppression of Indigenous people is ongoing. As always, #LandBack.
Today's a National Day of Mourning in the United States. A day that honors the genocide of millions of Native Americans, the theft of their lands, and the destruction of their cultures. It's a reminder that this country's foundations are built on Indigenous dispossession and erasure. Learn more: http://www.uaine.org/ #NationalDayOfMourning #Thanksgiving
