On 13 FEB 2008, the Australian Parliament issued a formal apology to Indigenous Australians for forced removals of Australian Indigenous children (Stolen Generations) from their families by Australian federal & state government agencies.

We apologise for the hurt, pain & suffering that we, the parliament, have caused you…
We apologise for the indignity, the degradation & the humiliation these laws embodied.”

Today is National Apology Day. On this day in 2008 then Prime Minister Kevin Rudd formally apologised to the Indigenous peoples of Australia for harms done by governments and their representatives.

Much still remains to be done.

Human remains stolen by anthropologists and colonisers to sell to foreign museums need to be repatriated.

First nations children die at a much higher rate than non-Indigenous Australian children, and the life expectancy of an Aboriginal person is up to 11 years less than the non-Indigenous average.
