The fatherland era in Nigeria was good, and I honestly don't understand why President Tinubu took us back to the "motherland" by giving us a colonial anthem. It feels completely backwards for a sovereign, independent country to throw away its own indigenously composed anthem and readopt one left behind by our former colonial masters.

To many of us, it feels like our sovereignty is being taken for granted. We are being forced to sing a song that many people don't even know, and honestly, I for one won't even try to learn it or sing it. I pray the next president reverses this decision, changes it back, and restores our pride.

Bring back our freedom! "Arise, O Compatriots, Nigeria's call obey," that is our true anthem, not this recycled colonial song. 🇳🇬✊
