View of St Paul's School in Garden City, Long Island. The opulent 500-room Victorian Gothic structure opened in 1883 and saw its share of famous names and notable events. By 1991 it had become financially troubled, closing and in 1993 being acquired by the Village of Garden City. Since then there's been use of the school's athletic fields but the building itself has languished. No consensus has emerged about what to do with the place, an architectural treasure and a white elephant. A 2008 opinion poll of village residents favored demolition. The chain link fence around the building (never a good sign) is relatively recent although I can't find any news online about the school's impending demise.
