Acrylic paint on an outlet faceplate; 2023? One of many.

I was working on this during a sleep study that would reveal my idiopathic hypersomnia, narcolepsy's little known cousin. Wild times. It's good to remember how far I've come. I'll probably post the others later.

Welp I ended up inverting my sleep schedule again. First time doing so while still taking my #Narcolepsy meds, usually this only happens when I fall off them. But I'm gonna try to flip my sleep schedule back in a few days by sleeping during travel, which if I get lucky will pass the time but still leave me not actually that well-rested.

And anyone with #IdiopathicHypersomnia or #Narcolepsy who has been prescribed Xyvaw or Xyvax - do not ever lie to your doctor about your weed, or alcohol use.

I know this may shound harsh, but you could literally die if you take these anywhere near drinking, or smoking weed. Alcohol, and weed, stay in your body minimum 12 hours (longer if you use more). Heavy users may never see a safe day to take sodium oxybates.

Your life matters. So be safe.
Get the help you deserve.
Do not mix use.

Fragments of Sanity

From boss fights to barn time; honest notes on mental health, sleep, and everyday recovery.

Fragments of Sanity
Oh good, it’s time to have simultaneous #narcolepsy and #insomnia. I’m sure I’ll feel great tomorrow.
Napping with #narcolepsy is so odd. Did I really sleep, or just spend the last 45 minutes in a daze? Maybe I went straight to REM and had a semi-lucid dream that I was thinking about the things I was thinking about before I laid down? I think I feel better, but am I going to need another one in an hour or two? I don't know, and without an EEG you don't either.

This was really interesting. It’s not as long as it seems- the comments start when the scroll bar is about half way down the page.

“Perrino felt that many people with ME/CFS/FM do not fit the typical narcoleptic profile but have narcoleptic aspects and can be helped with narcoleptic drugs.
Perrino looked for abnormal alpha/delta patterns and an irregular pattern of the sleep stages. Stage 1 and stage 2 sleep should first alternate, and then stage 3 sleep should kick in. At around 90 minutes, a burst of REM sleep should occur. The REM should occur in 3/4 distinct stages – each one a bit longer.
If early onset REM sleep occurred at around 60 minutes, he suspected the patient had a narcoleptic profile. It might not be classical narcolepsy, but Perrino believed it was abnormal.”

This is a moment of real struggle. Trying to remain calm while my body-mind is running maintenance tasks that should have been run while I was asleep last night. From the lack of access to mental capacity, working, and long-term, memory, it's probably maintaining a bunch of those. The light glasses I made to help me not fucking lose it when it gets bad. They send wakefulness signals, stimulating the optic nerve, and also help boost serotonin production.
