I want you to take notes and names. By "you" I mean you, the Congressmember, but also you the staff reading this to summarize for them. You, the person that staff member showed it to in order to confirm how to categorize this letter. You, anyone reading this.

If you are a witness to or involved in a situation where someone may be breaking the law - including international law, the Geneva Convention, etc. - whether or not you can block it (and whether or not you can afford to try), please note down for your own records who actively did what to create that situation. People who issued orders. People who carried them out, if you witness that part.

If they are later found to not be criminal actions, those notes will harm no one. But if the United States of America is breaking international law - and the daily news suggests we are - then if and when our equivalent of the Nuremberg trials happen, we will need those notes. What was done, the place and time. The people who are actively supporting, inciting, and progressing illegal actions need to be recorded for history. They need to be known so that if history and law want to hold them accountable, they can.

If you can share the information with the press, or with anyone, at the moment, that is great. But if you cannot - whether because it's classified or because you cannot take whatever risk is associated with doing so - then at least make sure the information is not lost, or at risk of being lost, if you forget it.
