Nadah El Shazly (aka ندى الشاذلي) is an Egyptian producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and composer based in Cairo who combines traditional Arabic modes (maqam) with elements of modern classical, electronic, and to some extent, ambient music. She is a soundscape artist as much as she is a composer in the way she molds her studio instrumentation and creates textures as she is constructing her pieces. Improvisation factors a great deal into her music, where spontaneity adds an extra dimension to her swings between restless, playful, and contemplative moods. She has had quite a colorful musical path that involves some local punk bands in the past, and some jazz along the way.  So she brings a fairly broad spectrum of influences to the table, with a sense of bold experimentation and a terrific voice that anchors her sound to an earthy feel.
