Final day of NZ Music Month!
This is an unreleased Fur Patrol song played for the first time in 20+ years at their recent shows around NZ:
“Why”

I’ve enjoyed listening to lots of NZ music outside of my usual rotation this month. Thanks to all of the artists!

NZ Music Month day 30:
This song has bouncing around my brain all day. Boh Runga, singer from Stellar* released a solo album Right Here in 2009, and this song “Evelyn” has been living in my head, apparently without paying rent.

Myele Manzanza ft. Rachel Fraser - "On The Move" (filmed in Wellington, Aotearoa NZ)
Myele Manzanza (was a NZer, now based in London, England) - Something Old Something New

NZ music month day 29:
A great Aotearoa Music awards livestream last night from Radio NZ reminded me that there’s so much amazing music out there. Congrats to all the nominees and winners!
My pick for day 29 is the inimitable Julia Deans, singer of Fur Patrol, solo artist, collaborator with Anika Moa, Anna Coddington, The Adults, and a driving force behind Atomic!
Here’s one of her great solo tracks, “Walking in the sun”:

Louisa Williamson - "Twinked" live at CJC Creative Jazz Club 2023
(Louisa Williamson won AMA Jazz Musician of the Year Award 2026)

NZ jazz singer Mavis Rivers + T Farlow, R Norvo, N Simmons - Teach Me Tonight
MAVIS RIVERS w. the Yandall Sisters - "FAREWELL SAMOA" 1984

The Rodger Fox Big Band of New Zealand - Moments Notice (by John Coltrane. Rodger Fox Big Band played jazz standards and jazzed up music for ceowds in Aotearoa NZ, more a performance than recording band)
Rodger Fox Big Band + GREGG BISSONETTE plays Dave Dobbyn song BLISS
(Most NZers will know this drinking song. Drink yourself more piss, Forget about the last one, get yourself another)
Original before jazz was added
Th' Dudes (with Dave Dobbyn) - Bliss
