Finally closed a bunch of browser tabs (not all, of course 🙃) left open to remind me of various tasks and purchases I've meant to make.

✅ Officially rejoin #NZGreens

Will need a new shirt. This one is still in good nick, but the green shade is too dark. Would love a nice deep emerald, tbh 😉

Quoting from the latest "Te Awa" (#NZGreens quarterly publication - see https://te-awa.greens.org.nz/landing -
"We should be celebrating our many local
#government election successes. Our 49 campaigns
across the motu saw the election of 28 #Green
candidates, including another Green #Mayor (well done
Nándor!). While it is a pity many great candidates
missed out, this result compares favourably with ACT
Party efforts that saw only nine candidates successful
from 46 campaigns.

"While #ACT was celebrating the number of Māori
wards that were disestablished, the actual voting tells
a different story. Over 50 per cent of #voters supported
#Māori #wards."

She named "climate, protecting nature, and ensuring that everyone is taken care of" as bottom lines for negotiations if the party were in a position to help form a government.

"The public good over corporate greed, it's as simple as that," Swarbrick says. "We're not only interested in changing the government but... a government of change."

COP30: climate law changes mean NZ could retreat from its international obligations

Proposed changes to New Zealand’s landmark climate law amount to a “soft renege” on the Paris Agreement, with potentially significant consequences for the economy.

This is both principled and clever.

This is why the 3rd largest Party in Govt (#NZGreens) are "extremists" but the 4th largest (#ACT) are a mainstream political movement that must be taken seriously. #nzpol

#National loves to sow #CultureWar bullshit but as soon as they have to reap it they run for the hills. Shall we list every link between the #CoalitionOfChaos & the actions of their supporters/donors/allies?

Nicola Willis urges Greens to 'call off' protesters outside Winston Peters' home

Senior government ministers are accusing the Greens of condoning "indecency" after a window at the Foreign Minister's house was smashed.

This is written for the UK, but the same can be said of New Zealand. For all the talk of will NZ recognise a Palestinian state or not at the UN General Assembly meeting, recognition alone is essentially meaningless amidst an ongoing genocide. Concrete actions are needed, like:

- Passing Chloë’s Palestine Sanctions Bill to enact sanctions on Israel
- Joining South Africa’s case at the International Court of Justice, along with Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Chile, and others
- Expel the Israeli ambassador and recall NZ’s diplomatic mission
- Enact economic sanctions on the $16M of exports and $178M of imports

Will New Zealand take these measures?

Sadly, it’s not likely. Our government is more afraid of US economic backlash in the form of tariffs than taking a stand for what’s morally required. Next year we have the chance to elect a government with a spine

UK: Why recognising a Palestinian state is not enough

If Starmer thinks he has bought himself some breathing space on Palestine, he should think again. Only ending the genocide and impactful sanctions on Israel will do
