“The country does not truly realise what it is in for.”

Fair analysis. I’d have added my impression is too many NZers are not properly wary of the campaign style National ran—smothering media with empty slogans, replete with logical fallacies, to spin a ‘vibe’, which they bought into because the spin appealed.

New Zealand didn’t want to lurch to the right; it just wanted change. It doesn’t know what it’s in for

The real losers of this election will be beneficiaries, low-income families, public servants and young people wanting to buy their first home

I note that National wants to stop the government copay to retirement savings and increase our retirement age. I hope they can fix health care funding issues while reducing taxes....

update re: EasyVote packs: "a production issue has meant delays to packs in the Epsom, Mount Albert and Papakura electorates". RNZ news says we should expect them "by next Thursday" (12th Oct).

However you do not need the EasyVote card or anything else in the pack to be able to vote in advance or on the day. Just turn up at a polling place in your electorate.

Information about candidates and polling places can be found at https://vote.nz

I've noticed, in the trenches of NZ's 2023 Election campaigns, that only one party seems to give a sh*t about the Climate Emergency...

This moron needs to watch the "Site Inspections" channel on YT to see how houses are built over the ditch without any oversight other than from developers and their own mates. But who's got time for that when rich developer mates are keeping you entertained. #nzpol #nzelection2023

ACT proposes to allow builders to opt out of council building consents

Party leader David Seymour said the policy was needed to increase supply, and building insurance could be used as an alternative.

Labour grapples with Kiri Allan's resignation, leak claims

Tragic circumstances putting a halt to the political career of one of Labour's rising stars, East Coast MP Kiri Allan, was just the start of the party's headaches this week.  Along with speculation over its tax plans and signs of caucus disunity, leader Chris Hipkins is left with an incredible challenge to refocus Labour on the fast-approaching election.   In this week's Focus on Politics, Political Reporter Anneke Smith examines the sudden resignation of a minister and the implications for Labour as the election nears.
