I saw new scaffolding going up around the iconic, and now derelict, Bossert Hotel building in Brooklyn Heights. According to Brooklyn Bridge Parents, the new scaffolding is going up so that new new owner, SomeraRoad, which bought the building for $100 million in 2025, can begin work on the facade (I have lost track of how many times it has been sold since the Jehovah's Witnesses gave it up). The Carroll Street Bridge is the second bridge crossing Brooklyn's Gowanus Canal, situated between the Union Street and Third Street Bridges. It is the most interesting of the Gowanus Canal Bridges in that it is the only wooden bridge of the bunch and the oldest of three remaining retractable bridges in the United States (see Untapped New York article).
