Is always getting my feet knocked out from underneath me and having to get back up.

Are the hands continually reaching down to pull me up.

Plus a kickass OT therapist who ordered a bloody table to put together with me. I'm still debating about going to that appointment

Does anyone else on here have nonverbal learning disorder? #nvld

This is what bothers me about this society, the search for the perfect human. Disability? Who doesn't have some function that someone else has? He is intelligent, but... like a potentially superior person, but defective. This is ableism at it's most notorious, because it masks as empathy and science. Capitalism is more than an economic theory, it is a way of ranking the human and material world against some conception of the ideal, usually an economic valuing, but it extend to social values, because the two are linked. Disabled people are more likely to not get hired and more likely to become commodities for the for profit health care system. Taking this too personal am I? Well, since I have experienced what it is like being #NeuroDivergent -- yes

What is a nonverbal learning disorder? Tim Walz's son Gus' condition, explained

Almost 3 million children and adolescents in North America have the learning disability NVLD. It affects spatial-visual skills but doesn't mean they aren't able to speak.

So tired of everyone splitting hairs over different Executive Dysfunction Disorders. Look, if you're a kid or an adult and you're struggling with school, socialization, or work in ways that most other people at least appear not to be, then you probably have one or more Executive Dysfunction Disorders. Considering how there are so many overlaps between Autism, Aspergers, ADHD, NVLD, & PDD-NOS, honestly, at this point, I think it doesn't matter.

What's needed is a way for people to identify specific symptoms and then specific strategies, accommodations, and so on. At the end of the day, literally, that's what matters to those who have it and those who know/love them.

I say this as someone diagnosed with #ADHD & #aspergers who has been told "That's not possible" and then, "Yeah, that happens," and who is now realizing that I have some of the symptoms of #NVLD too, now that I've looked that up on a few related sites.

What I need is a workable plan for my adult self, not split hairs

Tim Walz's son, Gus, has nonverbal learning disorder. What is that?

Gus Walz, the 17-year-old son of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, has nonverbal learning disorder. He's one of millions of American kids with NVLD, which has been described as the opposite of dyslexia.

Re: Gus Walz' heartwarming reaction to his dad on stage at DNC, I noticed Tim Walz Wikipedia article has no mention of Gus (#neurodiverse #NVLD #NLD) or Hope - seen in viral state fair ride😆 video with her dad.

So, considering there are many neurodivergents on Mastodon.... What's your strange little passion or obsession?
What are you really passionate about in ways normal people find weird

It's day 4 of the reversion of #NVLD symptoms I had as a child. A respiratory virus brought it on. Room temperature, spoken words and smells are barely computing. Imagine taking several minutes to realize you're cold and shivering. Or asking everyone to repeat 3 times before understanding what they say. Or taking 20 seconds to comprehend the smell of burning popcorn. The neuropathway(s) are damaged that process these senses. This situation has me feeling scared and angry.

Diagnosis Time! It's been a tough weekend and this has been surprisingly emotional for me.

I do have #ADD (a.k.a #adhd inattentive for you DSM purists). What I didn't expect at all was a second diagnosis.

I have #nvld (nonverbal learning disorder). It's not common, but it's responsible for my weaknesses with spatial and visual functioning. I'm learning how much those struggles affect ... everything.

Next steps: Meds referral, processing thoughts + emotions, therapy support. #mentalhealth
