Was Software für meine Retro-Sammlung angeht, bin ich kein allzu großer Fan von OEM-Fassungen, wie sie immer haufenweise diesen Fertig-PCs beilagen, sondern suche mir bevorzugt lieber normale Retail- oder Einzelhandelsversionen. Allerdings sind letztere oft leider echt schwer zu finden und kaum mehr zu bekommen.

Bei Windows NT 4.0 hatte ich jetzt aber heute echt mal Glück! Für nichtmal 9€ konnte ich diese Vollversion auf CD-ROM ergattern. Noch komplett eingeschweißt und neu in Folie. Davon hatte ich bisher auch tatsächlich noch gar kein ISO Disc Image im Netz gefunden...

From what I gather, #Windows #NT4 was basically #VMS in a new suit. They even repackaged some VMS terms into corporate-sounding acronyms. My favorite: HAL—once inspired by Kubrick’s “2001,” reborn as “Hardware Abstraction Layer.”

#wii is picky on USB keyboard, finally dug an old filco keyboard that is working on a wii. overhauled to make sure all keys(switches) are working and install #NT4 on it.

Continuing the experiment of installing an OS on a 1996 #Thinkpad 760CD...

The #IDE hard disk is perfect. I've got a simple USB/IDE connector. The disk appears as /dev/sda1. In Linux, I add my user to the disks group, then in #qemu Virtual Machine Manager, I set up a new VM, attaching the #FreeDOS Live CD and specifying /dev/sda1 as the storage device. (I also needed to change the boot order.) Seems to be working - I can hear the hard disk whirring busily.

I'll try booting FreeDOS in the VM from the hard disk, then I'll copy over the #NT4 installation files, and see if I can start the installation in the VM. If so, I'll put the disk back in the Thinkpad and try the installation from there!

J'ai réinstallé #NiteTeam4 (ou #NT4 ) et je vais essayer d'enfin m'y attaquer, comprendre ce que je fais et avancer dans le jeu ! Avec un peu plus de bagage technique lié à mon métier, je vais peut-être me débloquer sur ce jeu de #hacking :D
