The Parramatta River flooding is less severe around Church St, but it's still higher water than usual with sections of the path underwater. (It may have subsided since this morning.)

@cathywilcox

Meanwhile the federal member for Lyne is The Nationals' Alison Penfold.

Currently flooded Taree is contained in the electorate of Lyne.

Climate change is making these flooding events more frequent and more extreme. Likewise making more homes uninsurable.

I don't think we've heard a peep from MP Penfold.

Edit:

To be fair to MP Penfold she has spoken to Sky News, which is why I've not heard anything about what she's been doing, which it turns out is a fair bit.

That being, I suppose talking about The Nationals' policies and ideological opposition of any action on climate change would be "politicising this tragedy".

Driving into floodwaters is reckless endangerment of self and others and needs to be treated accordingly.

My unpopular opinion is that there needs to be (subject to relief/hardship provisions from a tribunal or magistrate) a minimum $1000 fine when people require rescue after driving into floodwaters, since the warnings are being ignored and the practice is costing lives and further risking the safety of rescue service personnel, with a knock-on effect of weakening the response capacity of emergency services, thus risking yet more lives.

"Most of the overnight rescues were people driving through flood waters". SES spokesperson. 😱🤯 #NSWfloods

Our trusty @ABC news, always accurate in their reporting.

It's a ROWING club, not a bowling club.

Sigh.

What? Oh, nothing, it’s just the flood warnings along an *1800km* stretch of coastline.

This once-in-500 year flood event comes five years after the last once-in-100 year flood event, and six years after the once-in-500 years fire event…

It says "defied all odds" but I reckon this is highly subjective because nobody calculated the odds. #cow #flooding #nsw #nswfloods #nswflooding
