@martijn like the fictional dog, I was mostly just taking the piss 😏
If it were plastic, I'd say it had to do with different compositions in the batch. This has a tendency for example to lead to weird looking #MSX #NMS8250 keyboards, where the entire keyboard looks yellowed, except for a single row of keys 😂

May 6th aka #MaySiXth is #MSXDay. ;)
If you have an #MSX, be sure to give it some love today!
Maybe join the celebrations by sharing a photo of your setup?
This is the #Philips #NMS8250 #MSX2 from my childhood, for example, running a Korean bootleg of #Nemesis3, the #EveOfDestruction.

@nonius yeah, it was good to have it out again, especially introducing it to the next generation. 💚
Did notice that the disk drives on one of my #NMS8250's are having issues (which don't have belts to replace, so I wonder what's up...), and I was having some video glitches (screen turning magenta, and reseating the SCART had no effect; only a reboot worken) on the other; which was a bit disheartening.

Wouldn't mind having a #GR8NET some day, but for now that's an expense I can't yet justify.

This #MaySiXth #MSXDay I'm introducing almost-five-years-old #BeardGrabber to #MSX games again. He's probably the same age now as when my parents got our #Philips #NMS8250 #MSX2 #homecomputer, and now, probably about 35 years later, he gets to play on the very same machine, playing the same original copies as I got or bought during my childhood, which feels quite special. 💙
So far we've played some #BubbleBobble, #Brisk and now #PinballBlaster. His #joystick and #keyboard control isn't good yet, but he's still very much enjoying the experience! 💚

I also have some videos of him playing, but I need some time to review the footage to make sure it doesn't show kiddo's face and such. :)

Good! The #TV I picked up for free through #FINN (Norway's probably most popular #secondHand online marketplace), seems to work!
Which means I finally have a working screen again that supports #SCART, so I could connect my #Philips #NMS8250 #MSX2 #homeComputer again. :D
Man... those pixels are large 😅 I kinda wish I had a small CRT just for systems like this. 😂

@h0ffman I agree. Though my sample size of Amiga games probably is rather small (especially considering I only have an A500 without expansions), from what I've seen the Amiga is the better demo platform (or at least the more prolific), while for gaming I'd sooner grab the MSX2.
But hey, perhaps thats just my nostalgia colouring things. ;)

(Still need to see if I can find that SCART cable I was sure I had for my A500... well, and a monitor for it in general, as the monitor I had been using for SCART things died a few months ago... Still haven't had the machines on since they found their way to Norway; even the Philips #NMS8250 MSX2 has only been on once...)
@Dozer @Truck

@polpo my #MSX of choice is still the Philips #NMS8250 #MSX2, mostly because it's the one I grew up with, and there's just something about having a separate keyboard, and being able to place a monitor on top of the machine.

@aperezdc yeah, #BeardGrabber enjoyed just typing in letters while he was 2-3 years old (and I guess still now at age of 4, but he hasn't shown much interest lately).
Though I at the time wrote a little Python app that would capture all the keypresses, so I could suppress keyboard combinations that could close the app or bring him to another app. Setting up the #MSX certainly would've been more foolproof I guess, especially with the #NMS8250's separate keyboard. Just didn't really have the space to keep that machine set up permanently.

@Truck
ah, right, the Japanese MSX you mentioned was for a different person :)

Yeah, sounds like it was just the RTC batteries then. With a bit of luck they haven't done so much damage already that it can be replaced with a button cell (and probably one of those one way resistors so the machine won't try to charge the button cell). I'll check tomorrow when I'm at my laptop again if I can find a guide for you/Dozer.

Not sure if the #NMS8245 also offers the option, but the #NMS8250 also had a jumper in the form of a soldered rod that allows you to set it to 240V rather than 220V; that should help reduce some heat production with current level of mains power. I'll ask if that's also the case with this model.
