They looked at the c planet which is favourable with #NIRISS and find methane and hazes. Intriguingly, they don‘t find any O-bearing species. We know that water is hard to see when methane is present. But CO2 should be observable if present! Hmmm? What‘s going on?

It could be trapped in silicates in the interior. #ExSSV

Next up, we’ve got Thomas Vandal on #JWST #interferometry as a tool to understand #planet #formation.

Directly imaged planets - albeit few - are crucial to help us understand planet formation scenarios.

Using JWST #NIRISS #AMI aperture masking interferometry, they targeted two systems, as part of an exploratory program.

On particular finding is that the choice of reference star is important. Longer exposures are needed to study the planets (reaching contrast). #ExSSV

For the last talk in this session, we jump to TRAPPIST-1 f with #NIRISS by Olivia Lim.

Sadly, I am not allowed to share much here because this is still work in progress 🚫 but stay tuned!

But one thing I can say, from Olivia’s 2023 paper on TRAPPIST-1 b, is that stellar spots and faculae are making things hard.
