The topper of a staff seen in the dealers' room at Norwescon 29 in 2006, the first year I went to Norwescon. 20 years later, I'm now sitting in my hotel room at Norwescon 48 in 2026 (we lost a year to Covid, so the numbers seem off) as I prep the next few photos for this "photo a day from my archives" project.

While I was standing between the crop fields searching for signs of deer, I suddenly heard a noise coming towards me, and I knew it must be a deer. The crops were high enough to completely hide the deer, so I positioned myself to be ready to capture a clear shot of him. As soon as he walked out of the crop field, 4-5m from me, we locked eyes, and he stopped, then in a few seconds he was already running away.
