Our #NEIfunded study led by Farhad Farjood, Nathan Boles & Jeffrey Stern reveals heterogeneity of retinal pigment epithelium cells in the human eye using #scRNA-seq & proteomics. We describe unique spatial patterns that suggest functional differences for RPE subpopulations in the eye.

We are developing new methods to reverse vision loss due to #MacularDegeneration (dry AMD). Our unique approach uses adult stem cells to replace RPE cells that are lost in dry AMD. This RPE #stemcell therapy is being studied in our ongoing #NEIfunded #ClinicalTrial at the U-Michigan Kellogg Eye Center, led by Dr. Rajesh Rao and sponsored by Luxa Biotechnology.

An important aspect of treating vision impairment is understanding the biology of eye cell types. Part of our #NEIfunded research program seeks to define attributes of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells, which are affected in #MacularDegeneration.
