"Why don't you just apply for a grant?"

NEH Collections Stewardship. $50K-$500K. Funds conservation and digitization of humanities collections. From their 2026 guidelines, page 8: "Individuals...are ineligible." I digitize humanities collections. That's the program. I'm the individual. #preservation #NEH #archives #digipres

"Why don't you just apply for a grant?"

NEH Sustaining Cultural Heritage Collections. Up to $420,000. Must be a cultural institution. For environmental controls in buildings. The guidelines say: "Individuals are not eligible to apply." "Why don't you just apply for a grant?"

NEH Preservation Assistance Grants for Smaller Institutions. Up to $15K. The word "institutions" is literally in the program name. It's for libraries, archives, museums, historical societies. Not the person running the largest filmstrip preservation operation in the country. #preservation #NEH #grants #archives #digipres

“The manner in which #NEH grants were terminated is in direct opposition to the agency’s founding legislation, which asserted that ‘it is necessary and appropriate for the Fed. Gov't to help create and sustain . . . a climate encouraging freedom of thought, imagination, and inquiry,’” said AHA Executive Director, Sarah Weicksel."

Major Update in our NEH Lawsuit - AHA

On March 6, 2026, the American Historical Association and our co-plaintiffs filed a motion for summary judgment. Found History (Briefly Noted)

Two DOGE twenty-something’s with no experience or expertise walked into the National Endowment for the Humanities in March 2025.

Neither had ever administered a grant. Neither had read a humanities proposal. Neither knew what the Administrative Procedures Act was. They were just two guys from Elon Musk’s world armed with ChatGPT and six weeks to gut a federal agency. By April 1st, $100 million in grants was gone. Sixty-five percent of the staff was fired.

after about 1h19:30 he's asked about this Forward article because Michael McDonald (the MAGA guy who was promoted to puppet head of the NEH) texted it to him. Wolfson plays dumb about whether there was anything going on about Jewish-themed grants being cut or that anyone discussed it.

(Funny, the two DOGE guys he worked with to accomplish the cuts didn't seem to have any shame about saying Jewish topics were DEI and wasteful spending)

Jews thought Trump wanted to fight antisemitism. Why did he cut all of their grants?

When DOGE routed the National Endowment for the Humanities, hundreds of grants for Holocaust history and Yiddish culture were terminated
