Advocacy opportunity 📣 BC's Finance committee is now accepting written feedback on what to include in BC's 2027 budget. This is a critical chance to tell policy-makers to support clean air, Long COVID care, testing, wastewater monitoring and more.

Learn how to submit your written feedback at https://donoharmbc.ca/bc-government-2027-budget.../ - and find some sample answers you can use to make it easier! In past years, budget feedback has resulted in some notable successes - including a 2024 commitment of over $3 billion in continued pandemic funding.

This year's feedback deadline is 2 pm (Pacific Time) on Friday, June 19. Note that if you're already scheduled to present directly to the finance committee, you do *not* need to do a written submission as well.

Input opportunity 📣 We've been asked to share a new initiative by a research team at UBC. Right now, they're setting priorities for new research around "healthcare barriers related to respiratory infection risk" - and they want to hear from people across BC about what to focus on!

Do you live with chronic physical health conditions that increase risks from respiratory infections? Are you a family member, caregiver, or advocate for people with chronic physical health conditions? Your input can help shape future research projects!

We need masks in healthcare. Now. - The Sick Times

As a person with Long COVID, losing consciousness was a terrifying experience made worse by a potential exposure risk. I quickly put my mask back on and thankfully managed to escape unscathed. But this experience reinforced how much power healthcare providers have over those in their care.

The Sick Times - Chronicling the Long COVID crisis

@avilewis Bonnie Henry removing mask mandates resulted in my Dad getting infected by #unmasked hospital staff. He died from covid cardiac arrest in 2023. This was government sanctioned #murder by #eugenics policies. Every single political party has failed to protect citizens, especially most vulnerable ones. Every single politician has normalized eugenics. That will end up costing provincial & federal governments, millions, if not billions to deal with long covid & many other preventable health issues. You have an opportunity to do better & lead by a more humane, not eugenics, living example. Start by normalizing wearing masks indoors again.

are there any covid cautious, contagion cautious, virus vigilant, still masking, etc kind of hashtags that are not for PSAs or vent posts? I would like the ability to see more posts that are covid safer or from masking folks but are about joyful things rather than The Horrors™️

P (he/him): I’ve started the #maskedupsluts hashtag and it would be great to find more tags to follow like that, or accounts to follow that are covid cautious but not full of doomposting or calls to action

Viruses take lives. They always have, but it has gotten much worse as colonialism destroys every defense we have against them. Wear a mask! You can protect yourself and your community from death and new disability. You can avoid being constantly sick, and getting others constantly sick. There are multiple options for multiple kinds of faces and sensory needs. If one mask is uncomfortable or hurts, there is bound to be one that fits comfortably.
