The fan skills of Fan Master (Kim Tae-woo) in Culinary Class Wars Season 2 are reminding me of Jang Hyuk as Yi Bang-won in My Country: The New Age.

Different contexts, different fans, but I'm swooning over them both.

My #kdrama watching has shifted recently, with my current obsession with the early kings of Joseon and their bloody fights for the throne. 3 shows I watched:
#TheQueenWhoCrowns
#MyCountryTheNewAge
#TheKingOfTearsLeeBangWon
Each series has a different perspective, but the essential story is very similar. I'm interested in further recommendations along these lines.
However, having just finished the last one, I was thrilled to see a recommendation for #DiaryOfAProsecutor
10 minutes into the show, I'm sold. It's extremely funny, in a manner that doesn't feel forced. Also, a different location, on the south coast of Korea.
Currently, I'm watching the #kdrama #MyCountryTheNewAge and it's become more interesting, now that I know the scary prince played by #JangHyuk later became the king in #TheQueenWhoCrowns and the father of #KingSejong, inventor of Hangeul and considered the greatest king of Korea. I haven't yet watched Sejong's story in #TreeWithDeepRoots, but apparently, Jang Hyuk is back in that one as Sejong.
Historical context matters!

#DramaRecsChallenge Part 1

Damn, I have not been watching any for a couple of weeks and not been checking out this hastag either.

2 posts as I catch up

Day 1: 1st Drama. Thinking it was either #SlaveHunters or #BoysOverFlowers... 2009 BOF it is.

Day 2: An Epic Love Story. #DescendantsOfTheSun or #MrSunshine OR Goblin

Day 3: A Gripping Thriller. Either #Signal or #SaveMe

Day 4: A Powerful performance. Oh this is so subjective because you could easily swap in the word memorable. Gong Yoo in #Goblin or Oh Jung Se in #ItsOkayToNotBeOkay

Day 5: A Compelling Historical. #MyCountryTheNewAge

Day 4/Feb 1: Most memorable use of sound

#Kdrama My Country: The New Age.

First thing I thought of was the blistering electric guitar theme music that played every time there was a major fight scene. This drama is set at the beginning of the Joseon dynasty, so the music choice was interesting but I didn't mind it. #MyCountryTheNewAge

End of the Year Drama Challenge Day 9:
A drama from another year you watched in 2024?

2019's My Country: The New Age

This fan video of Jang Hyuk's role as one of the many princes vying for the throne was all I needed to start watching.

Ughhhhhhhhh

The ONLY reason I am forcing myself to finish the #kdrama #MyCountryTheNewAge is for Jang Hyuk.

The charming storyline ended around episode 8. At 10, with the time shift, I really lost the plot. And then they keep finding reasons to hate each other, stab each other, think each other is dead, only to hate each other and stab each other again. There have been eleventy coup attempts yet always the same coup attempts by the same people pulling the same tricks.

Only 1.5 eps left!

Start watching the #kdrama #MyCountryTheNewAge for Woo Do Hwan, stay watching for Jang Hyuk and his 🀩 voice.

The sultry not-quite-hoarse speaking voice. The growly yelling voice.

Yessssssssssss.

Jang Hyuk, this is one of the best Lee Bang Won depictions in #kdrama.
