Start Page is being more talked about lately and mwmbl, maybe because it’s a crowd-sourced project, seems to be getting some attention.
But frankly I don’t know much about either and after the disappointment with Kagi (partnering with Brave), my will to invest time in new search engines is getting lower.

It’s been so long since we’ve had an update on the blog that people are often confused as to whether the project is still active. It definitely is! I’m just bad at updating the blog. Most of the updates have been going to the Matrix channel. So an update is long overdue. Most of the recent work has been about making Mwmbl efficient again. When we started, response times were well under 100ms, but over the years, they’ve slowly crept up. There are several reasons for this:
@jason123santa @cwebber I've been experimenting with #SearxNG and #Mwmbl , but inevitably end up using #DuckDuckGo when I actually want to get stuff done.
I even got a login at https://mwmbl.org/ and am running the extension in my browser to help crawl the web, but sadly, results are still not very good.
Today I was looking at the latest mwmbl source code changes. There I saw that @daoud changed pip for uv. uv is ''an extremely fast Python package and project manager, written in Rust'''.

@abucci time for web sites to bring back browser wars era badges, but instead of saying "Best viewed with Netscape Navigator" it might say "Best found with Duck Duck Go".... Oh wait, they have an AI "assist" right at the top of their page too. Hmm
