Believe it or not, but this #improvisation is played on #guitar. I've decided to name it ""Wen a guitar dreams (of not being a guitar)". Well, given that I put a loose bronze bridge on there, named the Passerelle bridge, it transforms the guitar into a zither-like #instrument with 12 bendable notes and a slight "buzzy" quality. I tuned this purely by ear and aesthetic choice. #Music #AcousticGuitar #Improvization #ExperimentalMusic #Musodons @khomus
I was teaching some #guitar at the local youth centre jam thing yesterday, and got to talking capos. I’ve used some horrible detune nightmares over the years. Nowadays I exclusively recommend anything by G7th, a British company who only makes capos, though my Performance 3, which I've used for nearly 10 years now, is just amazing, especially when switching a lot between instruments with different fingerboard radii.

Apparently I'm in a #percussion kind of #music mood today. So I just jammed a while on this thing, then made this #recording to play with mic placement and other nerdy studio stuff. So now I'm thinking, let's play another "identify the #instrument" #game, which “should” be easier than last time.
How big do you think this instrument is? And any idea what it is?

Let's play a #game. Identify the #instrument (audio attached)
1. What is it? (I'll accept various spellings of the name)
2. Which country is it from? (There are multiple right answers)
3. Which cultural group?
Scoring: I'll give 🟢 for correct, 🔴 for wrong, 🟠 if your description of the instrument on 1 has two or more right regarding material, size, shape, etc., or getting geographically close with your guessed country on 2. So the winning score is 🟢🟢🟢

According to some, #WestAfrica is a hotspot of the most talented guitarists around. I agree, but I freely admit I've been biased for a long long time now.
This is Fanta Bourama by Djelimady Tounkara. Considering the above statement, he's mixing in so many styles in this, from #flamenco to jeli ngoni-innspired melodies to #jazzy chromaticism, with immaculate technique and flair, and he makes it all sound effortless. He used to be in the legendary Rail Band before going solo, and is rightfully considered an African #guitar hero. Though not as famous—globally-speaking—as Ali Farka Touré (who occasionally played with the Rail Band’s competition, Les Ambassadeurs), he’s of that same generation of musical pioneers.

Oh hell! Have Mansa as well; an atmospheric and expressive instrumental track progressing to a danceable groove.

This is Papaoutai by #Stromae. It's a song about fatherhood, but I think it can extend to parenthood really, because it's one thing that everyone has to figure out. There's no manual, as is clear from my favourite lines: Tout le monde sait comment on fait des bébés, mais personne ne sait comment on fait des papas ("Everyone knows how babies are made, but nobody knows how a father is made").
Every time I hear this song, I can't stop going: "That end bit sounds very Congolese guitar-like, couldn't we have more of that, monsieur Stromae?" BTW, he's of Belgian-Rwandan descent, and mixing in some African styles totally makes sense.
PS. The artist name is #Verlan, French street language using reversals and modification according to a set of phonetic rules, for "Maestro".

Have you ever heard of the Corelia Project?
from their website: "In 2022, only 7.7% of works performed in #classical #music concerts around the world were composed by #women. Here at the Corelia Project, we're working to change that! Our mission is to elevate the voices of women and all marginalised genders in classical music through the performance and promotion of their works."

The excellent Peter Pringle performing another episode from #Gilgamesh, namely Enkidu and Shamkat. Although it's a #Sumerian #epic, most of what we know survives from #cuneiform tablets written in #Akkadian and #OldBabylonian, and this one is sung in the latter. He accompanies himself on the #saz and sampled #zurna controlled by foot keyboard. Like usual, there's a good description and summary of the part in the video description. And again, this is not a reconstruction of ancient #music, but an interpretation.
