Our • team 9 • is now at the Laidu muižas pils - Radošais Visums artist residency!

They are an ensemble coming from both composition and performing arts backgrounds, they will explore the performative aspect of written composition for an ambisonic environment. The theme for this exploration is “in and out”, exploring the interplay between sonic trajectories of acoustic and electronic sounds through their localization both in the dome and in their natural position in space. They aim to establish different frameworks of possibilities, representing the relation between acoustic and ambisonic mediated spaces, alongside the visual movement of seen sound sources and performers.

Yui-Ka Zheng (HK), composer
Laura Mehmeti (CH), accordionist, contemporary music performer
Simone Spampinato (ITA), sound artist, performer
Emilio Casaburi (ITA), audiovisual and acousmatic composer
Kristīne Tukre (LV), kokle player, contemporary music performer
Their concert is coming up soon on 6th of December Laidu muižas pils - Radošais Visums 👾👾👾

Excited to introduce DDA immersive music residency • team 8 • from Italy and Finland!! 👾

“During the residency, we will work as a collective spatial sound ensemble, combining immersive field recordings, live improvisation, fixed-media materials, and custom spatialization tools. Each artist will bring their own creative workflow and technologies, sharing knowledge and collaborating throughout the process.”

Matteo Tomasetti (ShapeDaze) (ITA) - sound artist, acousmatic composer, and researcher
Andrea Veneri (ITA) - acousmatic music composer and music technologist
Francesco 'Cippo' Casanova (ITA) - experimental performer, sound artist
Andrea Strata (modulo21) (ITA) - multimedia artist, sound designer and creative coder
Vili Pääkkö (Vili Aarre) (FI) - sound-based artist with a master’s degree in sound design, works mainly in contemporary performing arts and music

Introducing: DDA Immersive Music Residency • team 7 •

They are a close-knit collective of electroacoustic composers and sound artists from Budapest, Hungary. During the residency, they aim to realize a truly collaborative and experimental piece through non-hierarchical co-creation. Their methodology—collective, communal composition grounded in research and co-experimentation—will take shape as an Ambisonic ensemble with theoretically infinite members, blending live guided improvisation and fixed media. Spatiality is treated as a fully integrated compositional dimension, as essential as timbre, timing, and dynamics.

Andrea Szigetvári (HU), composer, spatial form theory and analysis specialist
Bálint Baráth (HU), composer, pianist, SuperCollider programming and synthesis expert
Ágnes Máthé (HU), composer, sound designer, live performer
Ákos Lovász (HU), composer, spatial convolution researcher
Zétény Nagy (HU), composer, Max programmer, spatial theory researcher, technology consultant

Come and listen their ambisonic works on Sat. November 8th in Laidi Manor Palace. 👾👾👾

Meet our next artists-in-residence:

• team 6 •
Theodore Parker (EE) improviser, researcher
Karolin Poska (EE) stenographer, choreographer, performance artist
Erik Alalooga (EE) hopeless machine-addict, performance director, performer, sound artist, teacher and cultural manager
Otto Iivari (FI) electroacoustic composer
Ekke Västrik (EE) composer, researcher

The team’s work will center around forming connections between amplified kinetics sculptures and ambisonic spatialization for application in real-time performance.

“Kinetic sculptures can produce their own sound, which can be amplified through various kinds of microphones, allowing for diverse and complex sonic material. Additionally their kinetic properties
can be translated to spatial and trajectorial data for controlling spatialization. Furthermore, this data can be used to control other electronic instruments. These combinations afford the possibility of creating a highly interactive environment where the kinetic machine itself is the souce of the conception of the work. “

• Team 6• will present their final work on Saturday, October 4th at the Laidi Manor Palace artist residency. Welcome! 👾👾👾

Meet our • team 5 • that has started their ambisonic work journey last week at the Laidi Manor Palace.

UCL Audio Designers is a London-based multidisciplinary collective experienced in audio engineering, sound design, live music performance, music production, composition, experimental performance, and multimedia art. Originally based in Japan, China, France, Italy, and Belgium, the group came together in London in 2024 while pursuing a postgraduate course in immersive sound design at UCL. Following a successful collaboration on an ambisonic audio project for the UK’s Open City Documentary Festival presented on the 20-sided IKO loudspeaker, they are now exploring new possibilities for immersive audio creation. At Laidi Palace, the group will be working on pieces that explore the relationship between storytelling, spatialisation, and sonic texture through the use of third-order ambisonics.
