It was good that when we bought music from brick and mortar stores back in the #beforetimes we actually got something in our hand to enjoy when and how we wanted
Being able to download the unrestricted audio files and keep them is very important now
So is #selfhosting to sell what we make and treating all the other platforms like additional stores that sell our products not as exclusive dealers

If streaming is the hyper-capitalist next stage of radio (payola scams & all), then Bandcamp (and its alternatives) in 2026 is the at-scale equivalent of a Sam Goody or Tower Records in the early 2000s. Every artist has their music in the listening station & you can listen to almost as much as you want, but there is a clear/obvious way to directly patronize the artist, rather than a conglomerate-owned system where you barely influence what you hear, rules are opaque, & the artist always loses.

I've been super enjoying seeing and hearing Rusty and Tim of Flash Flood Duo performing on the Hog's Breath Saloon live stream each day this week from 4:30pm to 8:30pm US/Eastern time.
