Is there any plans for an extension that blocks our telemetry, our stolen hardware data/information and our personal data going to google as websites begin to implement googles new recaptcha? Or, just blocking MANGO in general?

Clearly, they don't respect users privacy, security and data sovereignty!

Mullvad exit IPs as a fingerprinting vector

Update 5/29: Mullvad has begun rolling out a mitigation feature on their servers that scrambles exit IP positions, thereby fixing this issue. IPs are still deterministically selected based on the pubkey. Mullvad is one of the few VPN providers that offers multiple exit IPs for its servers. If two people connect to the same server, they will usually end up with different public IPs. With only 578 servers (compared to Proton VPN’s 20,000), this kind of vertical scaling makes sense to avoid cramming too many users onto one IP, which would be a problem on sites with overzealous IP blocks and ratelimits.

Back in the day, we had #deleteFacebook, #deleteMeta, #deleteWhatsApp, and so on.

Some people heeded the call for a while, only to quietly return to Big Tech later on.

Now, many have been jolted awake by our dependence on Big Tech, and another #quitday and other variations are gaining momentum.

Personally, I started that journey years ago.

- From Gmail to #ProtonMail and #Tuta
- From Google to #Searx #Startpage #DuckDuckGo
- From Chrome to #Brave #Mulvad and #LibreWolf
- From MS Office to #LibreOffice
- From Google Drive to #NextCloud and #Synology
- From Facebook to #MeWe and #Mastodon
- From Windows to #Linux
- From WhatsApp to #Threema #Signal #Jami and #Matrix #Element
- From Zoom to #Jitsi and #ProtonMeet
- From Google Translate to #Deepl

I’m sure I’m forgetting a few, but there’s a European and open-source alternative for every American Big Tech and closed-source application.

What I’ve noticed is that many people are afraid of what they don’t know and therefore don’t dare to make the switch (completely).
(Some people just don’t give a damn and convenience is all that matters)

Any fear is unfounded, and if all of us switches en masse, Big Tech’s power will be quickly broken, and the development of alternatives will proceed much more smoothly and quickly.

I just saw a #Mulvad VPN advertisement on #YouTube that gave me the impression that London, and the U.K. government, were censoring its advertisements.

I did some digging, and this is misinformation. No regulator censored anything. Not the government, nor #Ofcom, nor the #AdvertisingStandardsAuthority, were involved at all.

#Clearcast, a private organization owned by some of the telly channel companies, which works with advertisers pre-broadcast, had some questions and rejected the initial advert copy that was sent over. And the tale as told even by Mulvad itself doesn't have Mulvad even answering them before it went off in a sulk to YouTube crying 'government censorship'.

One of Clearcast's questions, I read, was what rape, murder, and paedophilia had to do with #VPNs such that they ought to be in a telly advertisement. Given #TomScott's long battle with misleading VPN advertising, that seems like a fair question to be asking.

Bummer. I just started using this as my main search for the last 6 months or so. I even saw an advertisement on a bus in Seattle - seemed like it was gaining traction.

My main Linux laptop decided to fall in a huge heap this morning and I had to do a complete reinstall onto a new machine - might as well treat myself. Not being able to use networking, keyboard or mouse was pretty limiting! Was a good chance to cleanup.

The great firewall of Oman was a bit limiting - couldn't get Mullvad, Signal etc without getting downloads via another remote system.

Now I'm back up and running faster than ever!
