In the end I really didn't like how this one turned out so I ended up turning this one into something completely different. The second image shows it in the process of being reworked by sanding the surface before coating with white paint.

Printmaking paper, white lacquer paint, calcium carbonate, graphite, chalk, tissue paper

This is an old piece I did when I was at university back in the late 1980s. It is made by laminating pieces of printmaking paper together to make a stiff surface about 4-5 mm thick. I made a drawing ground of a thick paste from a mixture of white lacquer paint and calcium carbonate which was spread over the paper board surface. This paste dries quickly. I then sanded it smooth. This drawing surface makes for very fine detail and other marks that can be scraped and scratched in the ground. I learned this from an artist by the name of Wulf Barsch.

Acrylic painted tissue paper on wood panel | 12 x 12 x 1.5 inches (30.5 x 30.5 x 3.8 cm) | March 2021

This is one of a series of paintings where I cut shapes from tissue paper then carefully painted each shape. After the paint dried I glued each piece starting at the top of an unprimed wood panel using wood glue. Unlike most of the other paintings I do I coated it with varnish to help protect and seal the paper.
