@thomas a #gramophone lover from #Bristol ? you maybe know the band #Movietone and its male version #Crescent ? They are gramophone lovers.

I just watched Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). It is considered a #ClassicFilm but that doesn't mean that it is any good. It might just mean that it is important to the history of cinema or that it works well despite the limitations of that time.

Sunrise works extremely well working within the limitations of technology. It is not a true #SilentFilm but rather a #MovieTone film. It has a soundtrack though there is no real dialogue.

The #film simply gripped me. I was along for the ride. A must-see for any #CinePhile.

I'm pretty sure it rains test pressings on Paris these days. After the one for #Movietone's Day and Night LP, I just received the one for their next LP, The Blossom Field Streets, which I prefer. There was a #TerryFunken test pressing in the same package.
While preparing the boxes for my move, I found the posters of their tour for Day and Night. I can't remember why I received them from #DominoRecords offices, it's too old. I have a few copies in very good condition, I will eventually offer them after my move.
Hmm, what I get for looking up schematics for an old Geiger counter, YouTube is now serving me up an old #Movietone feature on "Prospecting for #Uranium on Your Holiday" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByrCApckF60

How I “deeped my ear on the movietone” in a passage from James Joyce’s “Finnegans Wake” (1939)

While we were looking at our passage from James Joyce's "Finnegans Wake" (1939) in our reading group this evening, we came across a parenthe...

And my latest piece for #TheQuietus is live: looking at the reissue of the wonderful 1995 debut album by #Movietone, a striking effort from the 'Bristol scene' as such of the time, and still intriguingly unique and against a lot of the perceived grain of UK rock music then and now. #music https://thequietus.com/articles/32622-movietone-review

Movietone's absolute resistance to easy categorisation is what has kept them consistently hidden from view over the years. Ned Raggett looks at the new World Of Echo reissue

The Quietus

Wow ! Foncez !

Movietone, in their own quiet way, were the nexus point for a web of interconnected West Country acts.
