On Monday I watched a newly restored version of “Shoeshine,” the 1946 movie directed by Vittorio De Sica. One of those films whose lingering images are hard to forget. Anyone else see it?

Aside: Gotta say, this free monthly worldwide curated series by The Film Foundation “Restoration Screening Room” is a great way to find & see movies you might miss or leave languishing on your “watch later” list.

61 years ago (on this day) was the film release of "The Premature Burial".

The third in the series of eight Poe-themed pictures, known informally as the "Poe-Cycle". This film was based upon the (1844) short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe, directed by Rodger Corman.

THE GAY FALCON (’41) kicks off the mystery series in style, with star George Sanders unraveling a diamond theft/murder plot. I’d seen the second film in the series first and thought way too much comedy - this one much better balanced. Solid, swiftly paced story with good turns all around from the cast. Sanders and Wendy Barrie delightful. And got a big kick out of the ending. #oldhollywood #classichollywood #movieseries
