@HakeemG @cdarwin You are absolutely right. Ranked Choice Voting is not a panacea for what's ailing us. What's most wrong with our democracy right now is too much money. That's one reason I'm working with #MoveToAmend to end corporate personhood. Ranked Choice Voting (or Instant Runoff Voting) does actually address some of the reasons we are where we are. It hasn't been around a long time so it's challenging to make conclusive statements about it but it looks like:
* Elected Candidates must have popular support (you must get votes from > %50 of the electorate to win)
* It increases campaign civility (you might put me second or third on your ballot if I don't go scorched earth on your favorite candidate)
* Increases voter turnout. If I can proudly cast my top vote for Ross Perot or Ralph Nader without spoiling my ballot I'm much more likely vote.
* Saves money, no runoff.

No Kings, No Corporations: Rejecting Authoritarian and Corporate Rule | Common Dreams

As we protest authoritarianism this Saturday—and legitimately condemn the many anti-democratic and unjust actions of Trump—let us also remember the tyranny of our corporate overlords who have been—perhaps more quietly but not less aggressively—eroding our democracy.

Move to Amend

We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

Wisconsin Supreme Court race already most expensive in U.S. history

At least $8.8 million has been spent since the Feb. 21 primary election, putting the total spending tally from the start of the primary election race to Tuesday at $18 million — breaking the record of the country’s most expensive judicial race, previously set in 2004 in Illinois at $15 million, with five weeks still to go until the April 4 general election.

Both parties -- and #darkmoney superpac's -- pour out-of-state money into elections because the stakes are high and *because they can*.

It is beyond time to roll back #citizensunited and related corruption promoting Supreme Court decisions, wether by Constitutional amendment ( see #MoveToAmend ) or #rebalancing #SCOTUS

Democrats are pouring millions into liberal Janet Protasiewicz’s campaign while Republicans are spending to back conservative Daniel Kelly.

On FB #MoveToAmend passed on a tweet by #RoberReich about all the tax evasion by the super rich. I wouldn't have paid attention to it but some people I know got to discussing this news and it made me think about #EKHunt's #TheInvisibleFoot , #AdamSmith's values, a recent mastodon post, and #NoamChomsky's classic speach #DemocracyAndEducation
