Mourning in America
Alienation seems the goal
Conflicts real and projected
Proffered to damage the soul

Preservation is our focus
Not collectively, but individual
Sustainability is out of question
Distraction as per the usual

When will the fog be lifted
The myopia find its cure
Will our fate be one of ending
Succumbing to final inure

No human is an island
You didn’t build this on your own
Society relies on community
Security begins at home

Stable hierarchies now needed
A house unstable will fall
Agents assure our unbalance
As we follow the bouncing ball

Bromide fixes are palliative
Root causes go untreated
No interest in making things work
Hopes and dreams defeated

A new New Dawn in America
Is desperately needed, and yet
Will we awake from our slumber
As of now…a fools bet

That trifecta, “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” begins with life. Without it, forget about liberty, happiness — and any other pursuits.
