#OTD in 1980, Mount St. Helens erupted (or rather, exploded) most violently. I was nine years old and the tragedy of lost life escaped me. I just found it all absolutely fascinating. 42 years later, I was able to visit the place (albeit not long enough, of course) — and was just as fascinated by the recovering landscape.

I have a vivid memory of visiting the Mt. St. Helens blast zone in the early 80s. All of the trees for miles were flattened, stripped of their branches. The fallen trunks were aligned with their tips pointing away from the epicenter, like a vector field. #Helens #MountStHelens
Happy Loowit Blew It day. Yep, that's what we're calling it now.
Wow, I’m old. 46 years ago today, I remember standing by the open south-facing window of my apartment in Vancouver, Canada and hearing a faint boom.
Turns out it was Mount St Helens erupting - later watching the developing devastation on the news.
🔥Today is the 46th anniversary of the Mount St. Helen's volcanic eruption. 🌋
