Scientists found faceted #gold particles up to 60 micrometers wide in #snow up to 1,000 km away. The #volcano releases about 80 grams of gold dust daily, but how the crystals form remains an open question.

Auf der im August 1907 gestarteten Nimrod-Expedition, einer vom Briten Ernest Shackleton geleiteten Antarktisexpeditionen, bestieg eine Gruppe den 3794 m hohen Mount Erebus, den südlichsten aktiven Vulkan der Erde, und erreichte nach einem sechstägigen Aufstieg den Gipfel.
