Old walkerThe north front of Mottisfont Abbey, now a C18 mansion that until the C16 dissolution was a small Augustinian Priory. The north front was previously the external wall of the church and you can see on the left side part of the arches to the now demolished north transept. The buttresses are also clearly visible. The chancel was also demolished. After the dissolution of the monasteries, one of the terms-and-conditions on the people who acquired former church properties was that they had 12 months to convert or destroy the property, so that it could not quickly be returned to religious use.
