@stux in #Germany, it's sadly not maximum gross weight but engine displacement × emissions classification.
- I.e. a Euro4+ 1l Gasoline engine gets taxed with about € 100 per year, but a (non-oldtimer [!!!]) 11,9l V8 monster will cost € 2.500 - € 4.000 just in taxes alone...
Similarly, insurance rates are usually calculated based off how much or little accidents one commits and how often aid said vehicle type is involved in accidents.
So a 18yr old with a fresh driving license will pay for their a Golf II GTI > € 4.000 p.a. in insurance, but if they instead over 25, has his license for more than 5 years and chooses a 3-door Corsa D, that goes down to about € 1.000 even if they choose all the extras that add to it.
OFC, oldtimers with severely restricted annual mileages will get far lower rates if they ain't the only/main vehicle in a household, but that's expected...
And yes, I too hate these #SuperUselessVehicles that are absurdly big and are only good for #MotorizedViolence against anyone not driving a #WankerMobile / #WankPanzer...
- Add to the fact that a lot of these are driven by affluent, insecure and sociopathic suburbanites and rich assholes and we all get the picture...
