Thank you all for letting me spam you with Mother Sea stuff. You'll be relieved to hear it's pub day so the #MotherSeaTour is at an endπŸ˜‚

I *cannot tell you* how much it means to have this book out in the world though (although if you read yesterday's blog you might be able to guess!)πŸ–€πŸŒŠπŸοΈ

#MotherSeaTour Day 1

✨Release day is TOMORROW!✨

I’d like to share a fairly scary (for me) blog post about the difficult issues I explore in #MotherSea - how I nearly walked away & how important I think it was to come back.

Also a wee reminder that I'm at Aye Write on Friday. I even have fancy ink stamps ready and waiting for the book signing! 🐠🏝️

#MotherSeaTour Day 2 – The characters!

After dragging you all on a quick spin round the world, I figured I’d introduce the three main characters in #MotherSea – SisiπŸ‘‡πŸ½Kit and Nuru.

This is my 1st time making character #MoodBoards! What an incredible procrastination tool they are!!πŸ˜†

#MotherSeaTour Day 3 - Uists & St. Kilda

Finally to the place #MotherSea began - the history of St. Kilda & its abandonment. That tale, and the Uists taught me so much about island communities, the persistence of faith, carving a living from the liminal shore... 1/2

#MotherSeaTour Day 4 - Madagascar

With France & S. Asia, this is the other origin of my community in #MotherSea, so hints of Malagasy culture fed into the book. This country is a biologist’s dream and heartbreak all in one. It gave me β€˜tsingy’ landscape & baobab forests, pirogues, feminism & day geckos... 1/2

#MotherSeaTour Day 5 - Seychelles

Fav folklore – An eejit Brit in the 1800’s decided the coco de mer was the original forbidden fruit bc it looks like a bum! Someone away from home too long methinks?πŸ‘

Fav experience – Meeting giant tortoises? Or giant fruit bats squabbling in the tree above us as we ate our dinner in the dark (hint: #MotherSea may contain bats) 2/2

#MotherSeaTour Day 5 - Seychelles

The right ocean at last! These are the closest islands to my fictitious one in #MotherSea, so the flora & fauna are similar. Seychelles taught me a hard lesson on coral reef death & restoration, but introduced me to Creole language & culture, and the reality behind the curated tourist tropical paradise photos.
