Neues 30-MW-Rechenzentrum in Bayern geplant

Das deutsche Start-up Polarise, dass auch das Münchner Rechenzentrum genaut hat und betreibt, das jetzt die Telekom für ihre KI-Cloud nutzt, plant ein weiteres, doppelt so großes Rechenzentrum in Bayern. Die Anlage soll in Amberg im Unterallgäu auf dem Gelände einer früheren Kurzwellen-Sendeanlage entstehen und Mitte 2027 einsatzbereit sein. Bei Bedarf soll sie sich auf 120 MW ausbauen lassen, das wäre die Größenordnung, in der auch die Rechenzentren der großen US-Anbieter wie AWS, Google oder Microsoft angesiedelt sind. Allerdings plant beispielsweise Meta in den USA bereits ein Rechenzentrum mit einer Leistungsaufnahme von zwei Gigawatt. In Amberg soll der Strom aus Windkraft und Solaranlagen mit Batteriezwischenspeichern kommen. Weltweit wächst der Bedarf an Rechenzentrumskapazitäten sprunghaft an, vor allem für KI-Projekte. Allein die großen US-Technologiekonzerne wollen in diesem Jahr zusammen 630 Milliarden Dollar in KI-Infrastruktur investieren.
