“The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced last week that more prominent warnings would be added to the information provided on boxes of the #asthma drug #montelukast, sold under the brand name #Singulair. Officials announced the move after concerns were raised by families over reported side effects, which can include sleep disorders, aggression and depression. Many parents say they were not properly warned of the risks.”

CCL11 (aka eotaxin-1) has been found to be elevated in ppl w/ Long Covid cognitive symptoms [1] & this could contribute to neuroinflammation.

Montelukast lowers CCL11 & research on repurposing for Alzheimer's is underway [2]. However, montelukast use has been linked to increased suicidal ideation.

Does anyone know why it would increase suicidal ideation?

Don’t know if it’s the warm sunny weather after the abusively cold weather last week, or being off #Montelukast for approaching 48 hours but I’ve felt so much more clear headed and productive. So much of the last several years has felt like I’ve been in a fog.

If you take #Montelukast whether branded as #Singulair or generic for #Allergies or #Asthma it would be a good idea to read this bulletin from the #FDA and give consideration to whether it is worth continuing.

Doing a bit of random research today and I found that the association between #LTRA drugs (typically used for #asthma and sometimes #allergies) and psychiatric side effects is more supported now than a few years ago. People taking #Singulair / #montelukast or #Accolate / #zafirlukast may be at higher risk for depression, suicidality, sleep disturbance, nightmares, and aggression (particularly in children). #LTRAs
