I was tragically unaware of Moms Mabley until I found a couple of her records for sale at Half Price Books when I was in grad school. I bought “Moms Mabley at: “Geneva Conference” (1962) (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mtaFrzC1W5P-E6MZiPJ05EaEuBtfGSLEw&si=TP-VjMxuuJX1NuMs) and “The Playboy Club” (1961) (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_m1RbQPjJs7LZJadKbGHYW1ToPcp4A43yI&si=KYMRNMXxP35u88Hz) She was an absolute riot!

Enter our leading lady: Loretta Mary Aiken (March 19, 1897-May 23, 1975)🇺🇸 AKA Moms Mabley- legedary stand-up comedian, vaudevillian and actress. From the 1920s onwards she lived as an out and proud lesbian, making her the first Black American Lesbian woman to establish herself a a stand up comedy. “Amazing Grace” (1974) is her final film role and her only lead actress role in a feature film.
