I don't know what rabbit hole sent me to discovered the Mold-A-Rama, but I've ever since been hoping to one day see one IRL. Closest I got to one was in Milwaukee, but we got there late and had to leave early so I didn't have the time to visit the county Zoo to check one out.

In short, it's an injection molding machine, except it's intended as a curiosity rather than a factory machine. They make various toy figurines and you get to watch as it happens as the whole mechanism is under a transparent dome.

Maintaining Mold-A-Rama: Chicago’s Very Own Souvenir Machine

So my wife hasn't driven the car in months. First she had the op on her ankle which stopped her driving for a while, then a holiday and a broken wrist and again no car driving.

Anyway we had a friend visiting yesterday so my wife had to move the car on the drive to make space for her friend to park.

Yikes!! Inside the car was BLACK!! Mold and mildew everywhere. Blooms of mold on every surface, seats covered in black mold.

I've just spent 3 and a bit hrs cleaning every surface inside the car, vacuumed every surface with a HEPA filter mini vac. Sanitised every inch of the car. Washed the upholstery with a wet vac and steam cleaner.

Then, another hour and a half while I jet washed and lathered up the exterior of the car. Unbelievable how much moss and gunk in the seals around the windows etc.

But we've now got a clean, sterile and shiny car again. Nearly 5 hours of work but well needed.

In other news we need to check the seals around the doors. XD

Recycled Plastic Compression Molding With 3D-Printed Molds

I was sitting here gaming, and gradually realized I was feeling so, so sad. Like up against a wall of sadness. There is a grief in my life I could attach to this feeling, but it doesn't usually smack me like that. And then I remembered the weather. We had a long dry spell, which ended with hours of lovely thunderstorms today. Which has led to a mold spike. Which usually makes me feel sad. And sleepy, with watery sad, sleepy eyes. Like now. Oh. #allergy #weather #mold #emotions #autism

Should We All Be ‘#HouseBurping’?

The German practice of “#lüften” is gaining traction on social media. It may improve your home #AirQuality.

By Dorie Chevlen, Jan. 29, 2026

Excerpt: "Experts say lüften actually works. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends opening windows to reduce the concentration of volatile organic compounds [#VOCs] in the home, which are released by a vast array of household items, including furniture, mattresses, cosmetics and cleaning products. These compounds can cause adverse reactions like headaches, itchy eyes and breathing problems.

"According to Dr. Parham Azimi, research associate at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, there’s also reason to believe airing out a home regularly could help control household #mold. In his research, keeping windows closed correlated with a higher likelihood of mold.

"Dr. Joshua Nosanchuk, a professor and microbiology researcher at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an infectious disease physician at Montefiore Health System, said that better #ventilation could eliminate many airborne toxins that cause people irritation in the U.S. 'Part of the problem is that we hermetically seal our houses. We don’t want the air conditioning to get out and we don’t want the heat to get it out,' he said. 'No one opens their windows.' "

I feel like the answer is oging to be "throw it out! now!" but my kid has been making cheese, and she noticed that one of the waxes had cracked, and opening that cheese, mold was growing.

It looks and smells (and, uh, tastes) like blue cheese to me, but it's likely not safe. Is there any reasonable way to find out what kind of mold this is, or to accurately characterize its safety?

Thanks!
